Milk and Honey, by Rupi Kaur

My friend bought me this for Christmas because she thought it would be a good read for me. I never usually like poetry at all, but this is a contemporary style that I can relate to and enjoy.

Poetry isn’t my thing, so I’m not going to attempt to review it. But the pieces really made me feel understood and for those brief moments, I really connected with the poems. I didn’t enjoy them all, and some did seem a bit repetitive but a few really stood out for me.

I chose my top 10 poems so I’m going to go through them one a day, because I like to think of some of them as inspirational quotes.

i do not want to have you
to fill the empty parts of me
i want to be full on my own
i want to be so complete
i could light a whole city
and then
i want to have you
cause the two of us combined
could set it on fire

  1. Love this one!! I also really like your description of how you felt about her poetry, because I felt a very similar way–I didn’t love all of them, but the ones that did resonate with me made me feel very understood in that moment. Looking forward to seeing the other poems you enjoyed!
